Police have arrested four people including the director on charges of drug use in a madrasa in the Bongram area of ​​Ataikula Police Station in Pabna's Santhia Upazila.

Four more people were arrested with drugs from different places in the upazila in the same operation. Later, all eight were sentenced to different terms of imprisonment by a mobile court.

Police said that based on a secret tip-off, a raid was conducted on the Bani Adam International Cadet Madrasa located in Bongram Masterpara area of ​​Ataikula Police Station on Sunday (July 20) night.

During the operation, four people including the director of the madrasa, Md. Shariful, were arrested on charges of drug use. The others arrested are Shahidul Islam, Robin Pradhan and A. Rahman.

The mobile court sentenced each of the four detainees to one month of non-commissioned imprisonment.

In a separate operation, a person named Rion was sentenced to 20 days in prison, Alauddin Bhuiyan to one month, and Billal Hossain to 20 days in prison. Another person detained with drugs was also sentenced through the court.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ataikula Police Station Md. Mujibur Rahman said that the detainees were sentenced through a mobile court under the relevant section of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.

He said that the anti-drug operation will continue in the police station area and the police are conducting regular activities to control drugs.
