Fertilizer trader sentenced to 6 months in mobile prison in Panchagarh

A mobile court has sentenced a retail trader named Momin Mia (27) to six months in prison for illegally purchasing fertilizer in Panchagarh. At the same time, the dealer has been warned and fined.
The raid was conducted at the Mercas Sourabh seed warehouse in Baganbari area of Dhakmara union of Panchagarh Sadar upazila on Saturday (January 17) afternoon.
Executive Magistrate and Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Fahmida Sultana conducted the mobile court.
The convicted Momin Mia is from Jugikata area of Dhamor union of Atwari upazila of the district. He is the son of Sabirul Islam of that area. Later, he was sent to prison through Sadar police.
According to the mobile court, the manager of the Mersas Sourav Seed Store in Sadar Upazila, Abul Kalam Azad, was selling the Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) fertilizer allocated for farmers to a fertilizer retailer in violation of government instructions.
Upon receiving the information, the Upazila Executive Officer conducted a mobile court and sentenced fertilizer buyer Momin Mia to six months' imprisonment under Section 12(3) of the Fertilizer Management Act 2006 for violating Section 12(1).
Under the same act, the owner and dealer of Mersas Sourav Seed Store, Kamrun Nahar, was fined Tk 30,000 and the amount was collected. Later, the mobile court strictly instructed the fertilizer dealer to refrain from such activities.
Panchagarh Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Asadunnabi, Sadar Upazila Administrative Officer Abdur Rashid, Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abu Tayyab Ali and a team of Sadar Police Station were present in the operation.
Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Asadunnabi said, "We will not tolerate any irregularities in the allocation of fertilizer to farmers. He will be brought under the law soon. If he does such things in the future, necessary steps will be taken, including cancellation of the license."
Panchagarh Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashraful Islam said, Momin Mia, who was sentenced in the mobile court, was brought to the police station in the afternoon. Later, after completing the legal process, he was sent to jail in the evening.
