Police have recovered the bodies of four members of the same family, including two young children, from the WAPDA Building Bihari Camp area in Mirpur-11 of the capital. Police suspect that the parents killed their children before taking their own lives.
The bodies were recovered around 1:00 pm on Thursday (February 5) from Block B of the Pallabi WAPDA Bihari Camp.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Masum (35), his wife Fatema Akter Sumi (30), their four-year-old son Minhaj, and two-year-old son Asad.
According to police and local sources, the family lived in a rented tin-shed house in the WAPDA Bihari Camp area of Block B, Pallabi. Police believe the deaths occurred sometime between 8:00 am and 12:00 noon on Thursday.
Locals said Mohammad Masum worked as a rickshaw puller, while his wife earned a living as a domestic worker. The family had taken loans from several informal lending groups, and creditors frequently visited their home demanding repayment. It is suspected that extreme financial hardship and mental pressure may have driven the couple to take such a tragic decision.
Pallabi Police Station Duty Officer Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shaheen Alam said police rushed to the scene after receiving information and recovered the bodies. The bodies will be sent to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy and will be handed over to the family after completion of legal procedures.
