Former DGFI Director General Sheikh Mamun Khaled and former GOC of the 9th Division of the army Masud Uddin Chowdhury are accused in a crime against humanity case.
The prosecution has applied to the International Crimes Tribunal Bangladesh-2 on Sunday (March 29) to show their arrest. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for the same day at noon.
Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said that initiatives have been taken to include Mamun Khaled on charges of disappearance during the Awami League regime and Masud Uddin Chowdhury on charges of July genocide in this case.
Earlier, the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court granted Sheikh Mamun Khaled a five-day remand in a murder case of Mirpur Police Station during the July uprising. Masud Uddin Chowdhury has also been remanded in another case.
Legal experts say that if the application is accepted by the tribunal, the case will gain a new dimension and the investigation and trial process will move forward.
