Legendary artist of the Bangladeshi music world Sabina Yasmin is returning to singing after a long period of adversity. In late 2023, she participated in multiple stage shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, Australia, but was no longer seen on stage due to her physical condition. After rumors spread about her health, she finally gave an audio message about her condition.
On Tuesday afternoon, Sabina Yasmin said that she underwent surgery on February 7, 2023 and since then she has completed 30 radiotherapy courses. No one except those close to her knew about her journey. However, Sabina said, “It was a tough battle, but her morale was strong.” After treatment, Sabina returned to Dhaka in May and then went to Singapore for treatment several more times.
Talking about her battle, she said, “It was a battle of life. Whatever Allah Ta'ala wills, it will happen. I knew I would overcome it. The prayers of the countrymen were also very helpful for me.” Sabina especially thanked her colleague and friend Milia Sabed, who was with her during radiotherapy in Singapore, for her physical and mental support.
In addition, Sabina expressed her gratitude to her fans and said, “Their prayers and love are my strength, courage and motivation. I want to fulfill their hopes.”
Sabina Yasmin will sing at two big events in Dhaka on January 31 and February 1. She said that in addition to the stage show, there are also plans to record new songs, which she will do in between the shows. Sabina said that she does a regular ritual every day, which motivates her to get on stage.
Sabina Yasmin started her musical career in 1962 by singing songs for children to the tune of Rabin Ghosh. Later, she sang in several films one after the other, her albums were released, and established her as an indispensable artist in the history of Bengali music.
Sabina last sang in the movie "Ai Tumi Sei Tumi" directed by Kabori in 2020 and also participated in composing and directing the music. However, this movie, her only composition and music director, was not released due to Kabori's death, which Sabina regrets.
