Actress Shomi Kaiser granted bail in attempted murder case

Actress Shomi Kaiser has been granted bail in an attempted murder case filed in connection with an attack on students during the anti-discrimination movement. She received this bail from a double bench of the High Court on Monday (August 11).
Earlier, on April 9 this year, the CMM Court of Dhaka ordered the arrest of Shomi Kaiser in the attempted murder case of Zubair Hasan Yusuf, an honors student of Tongi Government College in Uttara area of the capital Dhaka.
According to the case source, on August 4, during the anti-discrimination movement, Zubair Hasan Yusuf (20), a first-year honors student of Tongi Government College, participated in the movement.
On that day, at 12:50 pm, when the procession reached the Azampur area of Uttara Purba police station, Zubair fell to the ground after being hit by bullets fired by the accused in his left shoulder. Later, he recovered after receiving treatment at the hospital.
Then on August 22, the victim Zubair filed a case with Uttara Purba Police Station accusing 11 people and 150 to 200 unknown people. The suspected accused in the case is actress Shomi Kaiser.
Earlier on December 8, the actress applied for bail in the High Court in the capital's Uttara Purba Police Station's attempt to murder case. The High Court granted her bail for 3 months after hearing the application. Later on December 12, the Chamber Judge Court headed by Justice Md. Rezaul Haque of the Appellate Division suspended her bail.
Earlier, on the night of November 5, the actress was arrested from house number 53, Road number 6, Sector 4, Uora.
The next day, on November 6, the court sent her on remand after showing her arrest in the Ishtiaq Mahmud attempt to murder case.
Shomi Kaiser is a famous actress of the nineties. Her father's name is Shahidullah Kaiser and her mother's name is Panna Kaiser. Her mother, Panna, is a writer and former member of parliament. She is the sister of Maya Panna, wife of former President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury.
As such, Shomi Kaiser and politician Mahi B Chowdhury are cousins.
