Popular Indian singer Arijit Singh has expressed his anger over the police's use of lathicharge and tear gas to suppress student protests in Delhi.
In several posts on social media X (formerly Twitter), he expressed support for the protesting students and questioned the role of the administration.
According to a report by Indian media outlet The Telegraph, police used lathicharge and tear gas to disperse protesting students during the 'Chalo Sangsad' program on Monday (July 20).
Immediately after this, Arijit reacted on his verified social media account.
In one post, he wrote that he questioned such behavior towards students and expressed dissatisfaction with the role of the administration.
In another post, he raised questions about accountability for political leaders. In his latest message, he wrote that everything will be accounted for and change is the only permanent thing.
Protests over irregularities in the education sector
Students are protesting in India over irregularities in the education sector, especially allegations of NEET exam question leaks.
Social activist Sonam Wangchuk also joined the protest in support of the students' demands. She started a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar and was later removed by the police and admitted to the hospital.
More stars support
Along with Arijit Singh, several other Bollywood stars have expressed support for the students' movement.
Among them are Hrithik Roshan, Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Prakash Raj, Diljit Dosanjh, Vir Das, Dia Mirza, Sonakshi Sinha and Zeenat Aman.
