Actress Kareena Kapoor has spoken out about the recent surge in popularity of action-packed and violent films in Bollywood. Citing the success of the movie Animal—starring Ranbir Kapoor—she compared the tendency of Bollywood filmmakers to blindly imitate trends to a "herd of sheep."

Kareena is currently busy promoting her new film, Daayra, which is scheduled for theatrical release on September 18.

Everyone Making Similar Films After Animal’s Success

In recent years, the popularity of action-oriented films featuring "alpha male" characters has risen in Bollywood. Movies such as Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Jawan, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal have achieved massive box-office success.

Following this trend, several other action films have been produced. Consequently, discussions have arisen regarding Bollywood's originality and the tendency to depict excessive violence and bloodshed on screen.

Kareena Calls Bollywood a ‘Herd of Sheep’

In this context, Kareena stated that audiences are far more intelligent than filmmakers often assume. If a film is good, the audience recognizes its quality and wants to watch it.

Regarding the trend of violent movies, she noted that because *Animal* was a hit, everyone is now rushing to make films filled with violence and aggression. In her view, such content has become largely outdated.

As Kareena put it, a tendency to "blindly imitate like a herd of sheep" often prevails in Bollywood.

Audiences Exist for Different Kinds of Cinema Too

Kareena believes there are still many directors in Bollywood who wish to step outside the mainstream and create films with a unique flavor. These filmmakers also have their own dedicated audiences and fanbases.

She feels that audience mindsets have evolved with the times; nowadays, viewers often decide whether or not to watch a movie based solely on its trailer.

**Achieving Success Through a Fixed Formula Is Difficult

According to Kareena, it is difficult for Bollywood to achieve consistent success today by relying on a specific formula. Audiences are now more interested in novel storylines, diverse characters, and quality content. Therefore, this actress believes that instead of simply replicating the story and production style of a successful film, creators should focus on maintaining their own distinctiveness.
