World Cup Quarterfinal Ticket Prices Drop After Host Nations Exit

Published: 01:03 11 July 2026
World Cup quarterfinal ticket prices have fallen sharply after all three host nations—the United States, Mexico and Canada—were eliminated from the tournament. Demand dropped particularly quickly for matches that had been expected to feature the United States or Mexico.
According to data from the secondary ticket market, the cheapest ticket for the Spain-Belgium quarterfinal fell from $3,261 to $1,381. Local demand for the match declined after the United States lost to Belgium in the round of 16.
A similar trend was seen for the England-Norway quarterfinal in Miami Gardens. The cheapest ticket had previously risen to around $3,866 amid expectations that Mexico would qualify for the match. After Mexico’s elimination, the price dropped to approximately $2,049.
Ticket resale companies said strong support for the United States and Mexico had created high advance demand for their potential quarterfinal matches. However, after both teams were eliminated in the round of 16, many buyers lost interest and a large number of tickets returned to the resale market. The increased supply pushed prices down rapidly.
The same pattern appeared in another quarterfinal. In Kansas City, the cheapest ticket for the Argentina-Switzerland match fell from $2,381 to $1,142. Prices on the resale market can still change quickly depending on demand, seat location and the timing of the match.
The elimination of the host nations may affect more than ticket sales. Restaurants, sports bars and entertainment venues had attracted large crowds during matches involving the United States and Mexico. Business owners expect local attendance and spending to decline during the remaining games.
However, overall interest in the World Cup remains strong. Major teams from Europe and South America are still competing, while the race for the title has become increasingly intense. Lower ticket prices may also create opportunities for supporters who were previously unable to attend because of the high cost.
Tickets for the final remain extremely expensive. FIFA has released around 1,200 additional Category 2 tickets, each priced at $7,380. Premium tickets and hospitality packages cost even more.
