Since the morning, the sound of explosions has spread intense panic in Lahore, Pakistan. On Thursday (May 8) morning, the sound of explosions shook the Gopalnagar and Nasirabad areas of the city. Eyewitnesses claim that thick smoke was seen in the sky after the explosion. Many local residents rushed out of their homes in panic. Although the real cause of the explosion is not yet known, a source in the Pakistani police has estimated that the explosion may have been caused by a 5-6 foot long drone.
According to Geo News and international news agency Reuters, the suspected drone has been shot down. However, there is no confirmed information yet about whether anyone was injured in the explosion. An important army base in Lahore is located near the explosion sites, which security analysts believe has further complicated the incident.
Following the incident, flight operations at Karachi, Sialkot and Lahore airports were temporarily suspended. However, the Pakistani administration did not say whether it was directly linked to the blast.
The incident came at a time when India has launched a military operation against terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under 'Operation Sindoor'. The Indian army claims that it has carried out operations in at least nine places in Pakistan and destroyed several terrorist camps. This retaliatory operation came in the wake of the terrorist attack in Pahalgaon on April 22, where 26 tourists lost their lives.
It is not yet known for sure whether the Indian operation has any connection with these explosions. However, there is concern and excitement in the Pakistani administration regarding the matter.
Security has been tightened across Lahore. Pakistan's counter-terrorism unit and army have started investigating the entire incident. The situation is gradually heating up between the two neighboring countries of the subcontinent.
