Bangladeshi Saidur Rahman again among the world's best scientists

Professor Dr. Saidur Rahman, a Bangladeshi scientist living in Malaysia, has once again received glorious recognition in the international research arena. In recognition of his research and academic excellence, he has achieved first place in Malaysia, second in Asia and seventh in the world in the Mechanical Engineering category in the AD Scientific Index Ranking 2026.
According to the recently published AD Scientific Index 2026, Professor Dr. Saidur Rahman has risen to this prestigious position among 33,371 scientists in the world listed in the Engineering and Technology/Mechanical Engineering category. It is noteworthy that in 2025, he was also ranked seventh in the world in the same ranking, which is considered proof of continuous success and stable excellence in his research.
The impact of his research is also evident in various international assessments. According to ScholarGPS 2025, he achieved first place as the world's best scientist in sustainable and renewable energy research. In the same year, he was ranked first among Malaysian scientists in energy research in the list of the world's top 2 percent scientists published in a joint analysis by Stanford University and Elsevier.
In addition to research, he has also been recognized for his contributions to education and innovation. Professor Dr. Saidur Rahman received the Excellence in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Award and the Student Appreciation Award for Teaching from Sunway University. In addition, he was honored in the 'Distinguished Scientist' category of the 2025 Obada Prize. He is one of only eight scientists worldwide to be selected for this international award in the field of science, engineering and technology in 2025.
His position in terms of research impact is also very strong. According to Google Scholar, he has an H-index of 145 and a total number of citations of more than 86,000. Born in Mymensingh district, Professor Dr. Saidur Rahman is a former student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He currently teaches at Sunway University, Malaysia.
Earlier, he was recognized as the world's best researcher by Clarivate Analytics for being in the top 1 percent of researchers in his field from 2014 to 2021. He also has the record of being first in Malaysia in Scopus data analysis for MXin-based nanomaterial research and first in the world according to the Web of Science for nanofluid research.
He regularly shares his 28 years of research experience through online seminars, social media and YouTube channel to inspire young researchers. He also plays an active role in helping needy and talented students. On his own initiative, he has set up a modern laboratory at Sunway University at a cost of more than US$1.5 million, where research is being conducted on energy technology, advanced materials, energy storage, solar energy and clean water development.
In recognition of his significant contribution to the national economy, the Bangladesh government awarded him the Commercially Important Person (CIP) award in December 2022.
In connection with this achievement, Professor Dr. Saidur Rahman said, "This achievement is not the work of a single individual. This achievement has been possible due to the combined efforts of students, research teams, colleagues, institutions and funding agencies." According to those involved, this recognition is not only a personal achievement of a researcher, but has also further strengthened the position of Malaysian higher education and research in the international arena.
