The ongoing tension between Hezbollah and Israeli forces on the southern Lebanese border has been joined by the threat of new technology. The use of a type of advanced drone known as a 'fiber-optic drone' has created a new challenge for the Israeli defense system.
The relevant sources said that these drones are connected to the operator through a thin fiber-optic cable instead of conventional radio signals. As a result, no wireless signal is emitted from the drone, which makes the Israeli army's electronic jamming system ineffective.
As a result of this technology, operators can see a direct and clear view on the drone's camera from about 15 kilometers away and are able to accurately hit the target from a safe distance.
Recently, a 19-year-old Israeli soldier was killed and several others were injured in a drone attack in southern Lebanon. It is reported that the subsequent attacks were also carried out targeting rescue helicopters during the attack, which further complicated the situation.
According to analysts, these drones were mainly procured from abroad and later attached with explosives locally. The use of similar technology has also been seen in the Russia-Ukraine war, where it has proven effective.
Meanwhile, the Israeli Defense Forces have admitted that they do not yet have an effective technical solution to counter such drones. As a result, efforts are currently being made to build resistance by relying on nets or other physical barriers.
The security situation across the region has become more uncertain due to the use of this new technology, according to those concerned.
