US President Donald Trump has claimed that China also does not want Iran to have nuclear weapons. While speaking about the ongoing tension surrounding Iran, he said that by keeping Iran under control, the United States is not only protecting its own interests, but also helping China.
According to Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping has assured him that Beijing will not provide any military equipment or weapons to Iran. He described this promise as very important and called it a "major declaration".
However, in addition to taking a tough stance on military cooperation, Trump also highlighted China's different reality in the economic field. He claimed that Xi Jinping made it clear that China obtains a large part of its energy needs from Iran and is interested in continuing to import that oil in the future.
According to analysts, one thing is clear in Trump's statement - although China has taken a cautious stance on nuclear and military issues, they are following a pragmatic policy in energy and economic interests.
