Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly reacted to US President Donald Trump's threat to launch an 'economic war' against Iran. He claims that such a move by the US is basically a tactic to divert the world's attention from the country's internal economic crisis.

Abbas Araghchi made these comments in a message on the social media X on Thursday (August 20).

Araghchi's comments on Trump's 'economic D-Day'

Araghchi said that the so-called 'economic D-Day' is actually an attempt to divert people's attention from the US's own crisis. According to him, the US is currently facing economic challenges such as unprecedented debt and rapidly rising interest costs.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also said that repeated attempts to force failed policies can lead to new defeats. At the same time, he also commented that this could increase the hostile attitude towards the US among Iranians.

Criticism of US economic policy

Araghchi alleged that US economic pressure poses a major threat not only to Iran, but also to the global economy and the sovereignty of various countries.

He warned of its impact by calling US economic policy 'economic terrorism'.

Trump's threat of economic campaign against Iran

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that Washington was going to launch 'the most destructive economic campaign in history' against Iran.

He warned that countries that support Tehran in any way will face serious economic consequences.

Trump referred to this move as 'economic D-Day'. At the same time, he called on US allies to work together to confront the Iranian threat and isolate the country.

New level in US-Iran tensions

The ongoing tension between the US and Iran has come under further discussion with Trump's threat of economic pressure and Araghchi's tough statements in response. The international community is now watching how Washington's new economic measures are implemented and how Tehran will respond.
