US warns of ultimate economic pressure on Iran, Tehran warns of retaliatory war

The US has warned of imposing tougher economic sanctions on Iran. US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said that sanctions against Iran will be imposed that could become an 'economic D-Day' for the country. Tehran has responded with a tough stance after Washington's warning.

Scott Besant said in an article that the US's goal is to close the main channels of Iran's economic activities. He warned that individuals, institutions and countries that support illegal trade with the country through the purchase, transportation or banking of fuel oil from Iran could also fall under US sanctions. In a message on the social media X, Besant also claimed that the US has already destroyed almost all of Iran's military capabilities and nuclear program.

Iran has strongly protested this US position. The country's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ismail Baghei, said that imposing new sanctions is against international law. According to him, the United States is trying to impose its decisions on the world's sovereign countries.

Meanwhile, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei has issued a more severe warning. He said that if the US economic war continues, not a single drop of oil will be allowed to go abroad through the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, he warned that Iran will consider any country that participates in or cooperates with the US economic campaign as a direct 'declaration of war' against itself.

No permanent solution has yet been found in this tension that has been going on for almost six months. Due to Tehran's tough stance on the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy transportation routes, oil transportation is also being disrupted. In such a situation, China, the world's largest oil importer, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have called on both sides to resolve the crisis through negotiations.

However, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said that it is important to continue commercial flows to deal with the economic crisis in addition to the military situation. As a result, it is feared that the ongoing crisis in the Middle East could become more complicated due to the threat of new US sanctions and Iran's counter-reaction.
