The United Nations technical assistance team is coming next week

A number of United Nations technical assistants will arrive in Dhaka next week to investigate the killing of protesters during the student movement. They will do the initial fact finding.
Thursday (August 15) Foreign Affairs Adviser. After the meeting with Touhid Hossain, UN resident coordinator Gwen Lewis told the journalists this information.
The resident coordinator said that there was a very brief discussion about the fact finding mission. Dr. Yunus and UN Human Rights chief Volker Türk held talks yesterday and agreed that a UN-led team would work. A few UN technical assistants will arrive next week and will do the initial fact-finding work. But both parties have to agree on what will be the work and what will be the scope of the work.
Gwen Lewis said, they have booked tickets to come to Bangladesh and will come next week. They will primarily do the fact finding work. Their scope of work, terms of reference, working hours are still being worked out. But we are ready to work.
Regarding the terms of reference of the technical team, he said, it is not ready yet and work on it is in progress. It will depend on what the government of Bangladesh wants and what kind of technical assistance will be required. So there are some tricky issues here. It will happen over the next few weeks and it will be very fast. Then the senior team that comes will decide.
Gwen Lewis said they will come from Geneva. Those who are in Bangladesh will work as external team. When the framework is finalized with the government, the expert team will come to Bangladesh and lead the work. They will work independently.
"We have agreed to work together on the priorities that the interim government will set in the coming days," the resident coordinator said. The important things we have agreed to work together on are helping the youth community in Bangladesh to expand human rights and supporting the investigative work in which Dr. Yunus agreed last evening.
