Railway running staff are going on strike as the complications regarding pension payment and gratuity benefits by adding running allowance to basic salary are not resolved. As a result, train services across the country may be suspended from 12 midnight on Monday. Bangladesh Railway Running Staff and Workers' Association is going to observe this program. Regarding this matter, the Railway Ministry said that discussions are underway with them regarding the demands of the running staff.
We will wait until January 8. If the demands are not met even then, we will be forced to go on a strict program. In this situation, today (January 27), we are announcing that train services across the country will be suspended from midnight, i.e. from the first hours of January 28.
He also said, our main demand is to include mileage in the salaries and pensions of the running staff and to provide appropriate gratuity benefits. The decision to cancel the rules that have been in place for 160 years is unreasonable and unacceptable. Quick steps must be taken to resolve this complication regarding the salaries of the running staff. Otherwise, public life will be disrupted due to this strike, which is undesirable for anyone.
In this situation, there is concern among the passengers. If the train services are stopped, lakhs of passengers will suffer. Meanwhile, a high-ranking official of the Railways Ministry said that discussions are underway to resolve the problem. Efforts are being made to resolve it quickly, keeping in mind the issue of passenger service.
