Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the family card distribution program on March 10 as per his election promise. Initially, these cards will be distributed in one ward each in 13 districts. The Prime Minister's Press Wing confirmed this information on Monday.

Earlier, on February 19, the government formed a cabinet committee to deliver 'family cards' to the poorest of the poor before Eid.

It is learned that under this pilot project, which will start before the upcoming Eid, each beneficiary can be given 2,000 taka per month. In this, the government will have to count more than 12,000 crore taka per year for 50 lakh beneficiaries.

Although the family card application process has not yet started in full, as a preliminary preparation, the applicant has been asked to keep the National Identity Card (NID); passport-sized color photo and an active mobile number in collection.

It is learned that after the pilot project, application forms can be collected directly from the union parishad, municipality or councilor office. The government is also preparing to launch an online portal for quick application from home. Only one card will be issued to each family, through which they will be able to get monthly cash or essential commodities.

Social Welfare Minister AZM Zahid Hossain said that members of extremely poor and needy families will get family cards on priority basis.
