Prime Minister's special telephone wire stolen in Secretariat, security concerns

A new security concern has arisen in the country's administrative center, Bangladesh Secretariat, over the theft of the Prime Minister's special telephone connection wire. The matter came to light when the special telephone connection used by the Prime Minister's Office was disconnected on the day office operations resumed after the Eid-ul-Azha holiday.
According to relevant sources, the phone became unusable due to the disconnection of an important connection to the telephone line. Later, officials of the state telecommunications organization restored the connection after about seven hours of effort. A general diary (GD) has been filed with the police station in this incident and several government agencies have started an investigation.
Officials said that the Prime Minister's special telephone is part of the important communication system of the state. It is used for communication and exchange of information with high-level government offices and officials. Therefore, such a disconnection is being viewed with great importance.
In a letter sent to the Home Ministry, it was mentioned that various parts of the valuable copper wire between the old and new buildings of the Secretariat were found cut and disconnected. It was completely missing from some places. As a result, telephone connections of several important departments, including the Prime Minister's Office, the Cabinet Division and the Ministry of Public Administration, were cut off.
Several officials have expressed dissatisfaction with the security arrangements of the Secretariat in this incident. According to them, despite being the most important administrative establishment in the country, there is a lack of effective measures to ensure security there. In the past, there have been incidents of free movement of ordinary people and entry through the security perimeter.
Officials of the state telecommunications agency said that they started working immediately after receiving the news and were able to restore the connection after a long effort. However, an investigation is underway to find out how and who severed the connection.
It has been recommended to conduct a proper investigation into the incident, review CCTV footage and identify those involved and take legal action. The Home Ministry is taking the matter very seriously and various intelligence and security agencies have been tasked with uncovering the real incident.
