Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who spent every moment she spent in London, UK after a long treatment, has postponed her return to the country by a day. Now she is returning home on Tuesday, May 6, not May 5.
Shairul Kabir Khan, a close friend of the Chairperson and a member of the BNP's media wing, said that this decision was taken after consulting doctors and top party leaders. Her journey is being postponed by a day due to some personal and security-related concerns.
Begum Zia will leave London in a special air ambulance courtesy of the Emir of Qatar. Long treatment, fatigue, and preparation to leave her family and return to the country - all of this makes her journey very emotional.
In those gray days of 2018, when she was sent to prison in a corruption case, no one knew how long it would take for her to be released. Even during the terrible times of the Corona pandemic, she was practically under house arrest. And today, times have changed.
She was released by the President's order after the government was overthrown in a student uprising. The court has quashed the verdict in the case against her. After all this, Khaleda Zia is returning to the country in a new context.
In January this year, she was taken to London for advanced treatment. After the treatment, she went to her son Tarique Rahman's house on January 25. After more than six years, she shared the joy of Eid with her loved ones - after a long break.
Meanwhile, an unexpected piece of news emerged during her preparations to return home. The two cabin crew members assigned to the May 5 flight were removed from their duties at midnight. Internal sources in the airline say that such a decision was made due to security concerns and allegations of political affiliation.
All in all, Begum Zia is once again at the center of discussion in the country's political arena. Her party and her followers are now ready to welcome her. Perhaps for many, this is just a comeback—but those who know him closely know that this return is not just personal, but an emotional chapter in a long political struggle.
