Left Unity demands resignation of Dr. Yunus-led government over failure

The Democratic Left Alliance has claimed that the government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus has failed in all areas of running the country and the government should resign. This demand was made at a press conference organized at the alliance office in the capital on Sunday (September 7) at 10:30 am. The press conference was presided over by the coordinator of the Democratic Left Alliance and the president of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (ML), veteran freedom fighter Comrade Harun Chowdhury.
The leaders said that since the swearing-in of the interim government on August 8, 2024, the government policies have been implemented against the wishes of the people, which is posing a threat to the independence and sovereignty of the country. They cited the example of the St. Martin and Chittagong Hill Tracts Humanitarian Corridor, and the project from Maheshkhali to Matarbari being handed over to foreign lessees.
The leaders further alleged that law enforcement agencies and assassins are being used to destroy the national unity built on the streets and spoil the election environment during the simultaneous movement. Referring to the latest incident that took place on September 5, they raised the question, "Who runs the government?"
In the context of the situation, the leaders of the Democratic Left Unity have called on all non-communal, progressive and democratic political parties to come together on the streets. At the same time, they have announced a sit-in program in front of the National Press Club on September 13.
