Shafiqul Islam Masud expelled for disobeying party decision, BNP withdraws expulsion order of several leaders

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled Sherpur district BNP joint convener Md. Shafiqul Islam Masud from the party on charges of disobeying party decisions and violating organizational discipline. This information was given in a notification signed by the party's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Tuesday (January 13).
The notification said that Shafiqul Islam Masud has been expelled from all levels of the party, including the primary member post, for conducting organizational activities in violation of party decisions. The notification also mentioned that this decision will be effective immediately. BNP said that this action has been taken in the interest of maintaining party discipline and protecting the organization's policies and ideals.
Another notification issued on the same day informed about the decision regarding former member of the BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council, SAK Ekramujan. It said that earlier he was expelled from all levels of posts including primary membership due to violation of party discipline and activities against the party's policies and ideals. However, in view of his application and as per the party's decision, his expulsion order has been withdrawn.
In addition, a separate notification informed about the withdrawal of the expulsion order of several other BNP leaders. The leaders whose expulsion was withdrawn are - former general secretary of Bagharpara Upazila BNP in Jessore district Md. Abu Taher Siddiqui, former member of Madhabpur Upazila BNP in Habiganj district Syed Md. Sohel Chairman (SM Ataul Mostafa Sohel), Chittagong Metropolitan BNP Leader Khorshed Alam, former Nasirnagar Upazila BNP member Syed Sajjad Morshed of Brahmanbaria district and former vice-president of Hakimpur Upazila BNP of Dinajpur district Mosha. The notification said that the expulsion order of the concerned leaders has been withdrawn and their primary membership has been reinstated. According to party sources, the BNP central leadership is taking such a decision to strengthen party discipline and unity.
