Brazil suffered their biggest defeat in history at the South American Under-20 Championship against Argentina. Argentina defeated Brazil 6-0 last night, their biggest win against their arch-rivals.
It was a defeat that Brazil had never suffered in the history of the tournament. They had never lost by more than 3 goals before. Before that, almost a decade ago, Colombia scored 6 goals against Bolivia in 2013.
With this victory, Argentina achieved the biggest victory over Brazil at any level of the national team. Previously, Argentina defeated Brazil 6-1 in the Roca Cup in 1940.
Argentina attacked early at the Misael Delgado Stadium in Valencia, Spain. They scored 3 goals in the first 11 minutes. The first goal was scored by Yar Subiabre, the second by Manchester City's 19-year-old forward Echeverri and three minutes later by Brazilian right-back Igor Serrato with an own goal.
Argentina scored three more goals after the break, in the 52nd, 54th and 78th minutes. Agustin Ruberto, Echeverri and Santiago Hidalgo scored the goals.
Echeverri said after the match, "We played great. We were ready. Playing against Brazil always gives us a special motivation. We will not stop, we will improve even more."
The Under-20 World Cup will be held in Chile in September. The top four teams from this South American championship will participate in that World Cup.
