The recently concluded England series saw a major change in the Indian team's batting order. A section of Indian fans are quite disappointed with this unexpected decision. Even Axar Patel has been brought in to bat before KL Rahul. Due to this, many are criticizing India's head coach Gautam Gambhir's decision.
However, Gambhir is not willing to listen to these criticisms. He believes that this is how cricket should be played and any player can be played in different positions according to the team's needs.
"Cricket is supposed to be played this way. I know a lot of people are talking about it. But this is how we have to play the game. It's not just about the batting order, but who can make an 'impact', that's what matters."
Meanwhile, Indian fans did not expect such a change in the batting order in the Champions Trophy preparation series. However, Gambhir explained why he decided to play a left-handed batter in the middle order.
"Why do the top five batsmen have to be right-handed? We don't just look at averages or statistics, but consider who can perform well in which position. Akshar is playing brilliantly and has proven himself when given the opportunity."
On the other hand, questions have also been raised about the decision to leave Rishabh Pant out of the XI. Instead, KL Rahul has got the opportunity as the keeper.
"Right now, KL is our number one wicketkeeper and he has performed. If there are two keepers of the same quality in the squad, it is not possible to play both of them together. Whenever he gets an opportunity, he will be ready. For now, KL will be in the XI."
Only time will tell how effective this change in the batting and keeping positions will be in the Indian team. However, the fans expect that Team India will come out stronger in the upcoming Champions Trophy.
