Bangladesh's experienced batsman Mushfiqur Rahim today proved once again why he is one of the best in the history of the country's cricket. He has set a unique world record in the ongoing Test match in Galle, Sri Lanka. He has surpassed Australian legend Adam Gilchrist in terms of runs in international cricket.
Gilchrist has scored 15,461 runs in his international career in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. The notable thing is that he has never bowled a single ball in his entire career. He had the most runs among such batters.
Today, in the Galle Test, Mushfiqur took his personal score to 112 after taking a square cut off Asitha Fernando's delivery in the 99th over of the Bangladesh innings. And that run broke Gilchrist's record. With this run, Mushfiqur's international career total stands at 15,462 - which is now the highest among batsmen who have never bowled.
By creating this unique record, Bangladesh's 'Mr. Dependable' has started a new chapter in the history of world cricket.
Mushfiqur was completely reliable in this innings. He was joined by wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das after falling for six. Their pair has a century partnership. At the end of the day, Mushfiqur is batting on 159 not out and Liton is batting on 61.
The Bangladesh team's collection is moving forward at a solid pace, and the guide is the two experienced batsmen - Mushfiqur and Liton. However, despite the light of day, there is only one person at the center of discussion today - he is Mushfiqur Rahim, whose batting has brought out the story of the world record.
