A truck carrying exportable goods has returned from Banglabandha land port after the Indian government banned the import of some products, including plastic, from Bangladesh. The truck had PVC doors worth several lakhs of taka, which were sent back on Sunday (May 19) afternoon. However, on the same day, nine trucks of plastic granules and ten trucks of cotton rags were exported to India through this land port. In addition, three trucks of potatoes were exported to Nepal.
Banglabandha land port mainly depends on boulder stones imported from India and Bhutan. Exports are limited, including plastic products, cotton rags and processed food products. Although the export of some products has been temporarily hampered due to the Indian ban, there has been no major disruption to the port's daily operations. An average of 200 to 300 trucks of stones are still being imported daily and other export activities are also normal.
Land port C&F agent Suman Islam said that a truck carrying PVC doors was supposed to be exported to India on Sunday, but it was sent back after Indian traders refused to accept it. However, other products were exported as usual.
Banglabandha Landport Limited in-charge Abul Kalam Azad said that the products banned by the Indian government were exported through this port in very small quantities. As a result, the impact of the ban is not significant here and the port's import and export activities are continuing normally.
All in all, it can be said that the recent ban by the Indian government has not had a major impact on the operations of Banglabandha Land Port. Although there have been limited problems with a few products, the main operations are normal and this quadrilateral land port is still operating effectively.
