A colorful boat rally was held in Barisal today (October 04, 2025) as part of the “Maa Hilsa Conservation Campaign-2025” program to conserve mother Hilsa during the main breeding season of Hilsa. The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Barisal was present as the chief guest.
The campaign will continue for a total of 22 days from October 4 to October 25, the main objective of which is to completely ban the catching, transportation, storage and sale of Hilsa during the breeding season and ensure the safe breeding of mother Hilsa in rivers.
Along with the police, representatives of the Fisheries Department, District Administration, Navy, Coast Guard, BGB and local fishermen participated in the boat rally. The rally started from the Barisal river port area and circled various river channels of the city.
Superintendent of Police He said,
> “Maa Hilsa is our national resource. We need everyone’s collective efforts to protect this resource. If anyone violates the ban and hunts Hilsa, strict legal action will be taken against them.”
At this time, he emphasized on providing alternative employment opportunities for fishermen and awareness campaigns.
It is worth noting that, like every year, a campaign to conserve Maa Hilsa is being conducted across the country during this time as determined by the government. Officials concerned hope that by stopping the catching of Hilsa in the rivers during this time, reproduction and production will increase.
Slogan: “Maa Hilsa of today, wealth of tomorrow—let’s all protect domestic Hilsa production.”
