Semi-ripe paddy has sunk in Chuadanga due to continuous rain

Due to the influence of a low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, three days of continuous rain have caused the planted Aman paddy to sink in the fields in various upazilas of Chuadanga district. Farmers are fearing huge losses as this paddy sank a few weeks before the harvest.
As the ripe paddy fell in the fields due to untimely rains at the end of Kartik, water has also accumulated in the corn and vegetable fields. As a result, farmers fear that the quality and yield of paddy and other crops will be affected.
On Saturday, it was seen that the yellow paddy fields in various unions of Damurhuda and Jibannagar upazilas of the district were mixed with the ground. Farmers are worried as bighas of paddy have fallen.
Chuadanga Department of Agricultural Extension Deputy Director Md. Masudur Rahman Sarkar said, "The work of assessing the exact extent of the damage is underway. Necessary assistance is being provided to the farmers. It is possible to reduce the damage to some extent by bundling the lying paddy." He further said that a total of 36,784 hectares of Aman have been cultivated in the district this season. After assessing the extent of the damage, necessary assistance will be taken for the farmers.
