Ukraine wants 10 percent of the US Patriot missiles to counter Russia's recent ballistic attacks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed that it is possible to significantly increase its ability to counter Russian ballistic missiles if it gets enough Patriot missiles.
Zelensky said these things in an interview with CNN. According to the report, Ukraine urgently needs more missiles to prevent Russian ballistic attacks. He said that they currently have only one-tenth of the required number of missiles.
Zelensky said that Ukraine has two and a half times fewer missiles this year than last year. He also claimed that Russia's production of ballistic missiles has doubled during the same period.
The Ukrainian President also said that according to UN data, July of this year was the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since April 2022. According to him, even if only 5 percent of the Patriot missiles from the US stockpile are received, they can play an important role in saving the lives of ordinary people through the winter.
Meanwhile, the report mentioned that the Middle East war between the US and Iran has created a crisis of Patriot missiles around the world. Zelensky said that Ukraine is facing the most problems in this situation.
He said that they are trying to procure the necessary interceptor missiles through numerous phone calls and various diplomatic initiatives every day. He also said that the cooperation of Western allies is needed to strengthen Ukraine's air defense system.
On the other hand, at the NATO Ankara conference, US President Donald Trump assured Ukraine of a license to manufacture its own Patriot missiles. However, uncertainty has arisen about that initiative in the future.
Zelensky said that he is in constant contact with the Trump administration about increasing US assistance. He also confirmed that he recently spoke with US Vice President JD Vance.
The Ukrainian president also said that he wants the US to be more active in the peace process. However, he made it clear that no peace agreement can be reached by leaving the rest of the Donbass territory in Russia's hands.
In addition, Zelensky agreed with the assessment of Western countries that Russian President Vladimir Putin could try to achieve a major victory by attacking a small Baltic country that is part of NATO.
