The Savar Upazila Administration has taken action after news about the illegal fair was published on the popular online news portal More News. On Tuesday night, under the leadership of the Savar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land), the main gate and all the stalls of the ‘Lal Sabujer Organic Food, Agriculture, Industry and Trade Fair-2025’, which was started without permission at the Balur field of Imu Saheb in Genda area, were demolished.
Earlier, the fair was started with the permission of the District Commissioner under the name “Organic Food Products, Agricultural Products Exhibition and Industry Trade Fair-2025”. But the district administration closed it after a week on allegations of irregular and illegal activities. Later, some youths partially changed their name under the name of ‘a new organization’ and restarted the fair.
According to local sources, some members of the organization were conducting the fair under various pretexts despite not having permission, which has been alleged to be supported by an influential local political group.
Meanwhile, with the annual exams about to begin, parents, teachers and locals have expressed fears that the loud noise, crowd, traffic jams and uncontrolled environment of the fair will cause major disruption to the students' studies.
The administration had earlier informed that any fair without permission is completely illegal and action will be taken if a complaint is received.
After the news was published in More News, the upazila administration conducted a drive. All the structures of the fair were demolished with a crowbar at night and the entire field was emptied.
Locals welcomed this quick step by the administration and said that this will reduce the suffering of the common people including the examinees and prevent the recurrence of uncontrolled activities.
