Clash over dominance in Narsingdi, youth killed in shooting

A youth named Anik (20) was shot dead in a clash between two parties in Raipura, Narsingdi. At least 10 others were injured in the incident.
The clash took place in the Haripur and Darigaon areas of Nilaksha Union of the upazila early on Tuesday (June 16). It is reported that there had been a long-standing dispute between supporters of Nazim Uddin and Alal Munshi over local dominance.
The deceased Anik is the son of former UP member Osman Mia of Darigaon area. Local sources said that he was a supporter of Nazim Uddin's side.
Police and locals said that people from both sides got involved in a clash with country-made weapons and firearms in the early hours of the morning. There was also an incident of shooting. Anik and several others were shot during the clash.
The injured Anik, Raju and Mubarak were first taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. Later, Anik was sent to Dhaka for better treatment, where he died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mojibur Rahman said that the clash took place due to a long-standing dispute. Upon receiving the information, law enforcement officials rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
He added that the situation is currently calm. Necessary legal action will be taken after investigating those involved in the incident.
Additional police have been deployed in the area after the clash and the situation is being monitored.
