The bank accounts of former Member of Parliament and star cricketer Shakib Al Hasan and his wife Umm Ahmed Shishir of Magura-1 constituency have been seized.
Yesterday, Bangladesh Bank's financial intelligence unit Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) sent an instruction in this regard to banks and financial institutions of the country and seized the accounts.
A senior official of BFIU confirmed this information. All transactions on the individual and their sole proprietorship business accounts will be suspended. For the next 30 days, you will not be able to make any kind of transaction. If necessary, this period of suspending the transaction will be extended.
BFIU's letter said that relevant provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Rules will apply to this order to suspend transactions.
Earlier on October 2, Shakib Al Hasan and his wife's account was summoned.
Shakib Al Hasan is currently staying in the United States with his family. The world's best all-rounder has already retired from Test and T20.
Incidentally, in the 12th national parliament election, he won the Awami League election in his district Magura and became a member of parliament. However, in the reshuffle of August 5, Shakib lost the post of member of Parliament. He has been out of the country since then
