Black market days are over: ‘Fuel card’ coming for all cars!

Published: 03:53 27 March 2026
The government has planned to introduce ‘Fuel card’ for all cars to prevent artificial shortage of fuel oil and black market in the market. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has already started preparations for this initiative.
Department officials said that if the ongoing war in the Middle East does not end soon, a country like Bangladesh may have to pay a lot for oil shortage and price increase. In the current situation, some unscrupulous traders are trying to create an artificial crisis by hoarding fuel oil.
Ikbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku said that the supply of oil at the country’s pumps is normal. The same amount of oil that was supplied before the Iran war is still being supplied. However, due to the sudden increase in demand, oil is running out faster than before.
The government has decided to implement ‘Fuel card’ to prevent oil wastage and hoarding. Through this card, owners of motorcycles, private cars, trucks and buses will be able to collect a certain amount of oil. Each card will have a QR code, through which oil can be taken from a specific pump. However, the ministry said it will take some time for it to be fully operational.
