The country's Justice Ministry has published an updated list of 737 Palestinians imprisoned in Israeli prisons. The list was published on Saturday. They will be released in the first phase of implementing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. However, the Israeli Justice Ministry has said that the prisoners will not be released before 4 pm on Sunday.
The Israeli Justice Ministry had previously published a list of 95 Palestinians imprisoned under the ceasefire agreement. This list was later updated. The Times of Israel reported.
According to the terms of the ceasefire, the Israeli authorities will release 737 Palestinians in exchange for the release of 33 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.
The Israeli list includes the name of imprisoned Khaleda Jarrar. She is the leader of the Palestinian organization Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. He is also a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council. The list also includes Palestinian journalist Bushra al-Tawil.
Israel has included the names of several members of the three Palestinian organizations - Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Fatah - in the list to release them. Many of them are serving life sentences.
On Saturday morning, the Israeli coalition government's cabinet approved the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. Earlier, on Friday, Israel's National Security Cabinet approved the ceasefire agreement.
The ceasefire in Gaza is scheduled to take effect from Sunday. It is hoped that this will pave the way for an end to the 15-month-long bloodshed in Gaza.
