Exchange of fire on Pakistan border: Indian soldier killed, tension again in Kashmir

There has been a sharp rise in tension again on the border between Pakistan and India. An Indian soldier has been killed in a gunfight with separatists in the Uri sector of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred during an infiltration attempt across the border.
Indian government sources claim that terrorists tried to cross the border with the help of the Pakistan army late on the night of August 12. Indian soldiers allege that this was not a simple infiltration attempt; rather, the attackers received direct support from Pakistani soldiers.
When Indian soldiers returned fire, a clash broke out. An Indian soldier was seriously injured and died. Although the infiltration attempt failed, the attackers escaped taking advantage of the inclement weather. An official statement from the Indian army in this regard has not been released yet.
Earlier, 26 people were killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgaon, Jammu and Kashmir, last April. In response, India attacked Pakistan, which retaliated. The two sides later agreed to a ceasefire, but within weeks, tensions had flared up again along the border.
