On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, Water Resources Minister Md. Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie's purchase of a cow for Tk 32 lakh has created widespread discussion and criticism on social media. Now, in the face of controversy, his son Sarian Chowdhury has opened up on this.
In a post on his Facebook account at 5:52 pm on Tuesday (May 26), he explained the issue of cow purchase and raised questions for critics.
In the post, Sarian Chowdhury claimed that his father and family members buy multiple cows every year for family sacrifice and Haji Basir Ullah Chowdhury Orphanage-Madrasa. He wrote, "My father Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and his brothers buy 6, 7 or 8 cows every year. In that vein, they have bought 6 cows this year as well."
In response to the criticism, he further wrote, “50 years from now, when my father will no longer be a minister, will our successors face the same criticism if they sacrifice 10 cows? Or are they being attacked just because they are ministers?”
Sarian also expressed his position on the distribution of sacrificial meat. He said that this beef will be distributed among the poor and the rights of the people will reach the people.
It is worth noting that recently, after the news of Water Resources Minister Annie buying a cow for 32 lakh taka from the sacrificial animal market was published, there was a huge discussion on social media about the matter. After that, his son Sarian Chowdhury posted on Facebook explaining his position on behalf of his father.
