The investigation into the death of former Bangladesh Air Force officer Flight Lieutenant K M Tahasif Sauri has taken a new turn. Police have reported finding preliminary evidence suggesting the involvement of his friend, Ahmed Shahriar Reza Deep, in the homicide. Meanwhile, the Naval Police have also arrested a young woman named 'Disha'. Investigators have placed Deep on a four-day remand for questioning.

Inspector Firoz Ahmed of the Tongi Naval Police outpost stated that Disha was arrested during an operation on Saturday night (October 31). On the same day, the court granted a four-day remand for Deep, and investigators began questioning him shortly after midnight.

Abdullah Al Mamun, Superintendent of Police for the Dhaka region of the Naval Police, confirmed that preliminary evidence points to Deep’s involvement in Tahasif’s death. However, further details are being withheld for the sake of the ongoing investigation.

According to an official involved in the investigation, an analysis of CCTV footage reveals that Deep was with Tahasif from 6:30 PM until 1:30 AM on the day of the incident. The two had visited the Mazar Basti area in Tongi together. While Deep later returned alone, there was no further trace of Tahasif. Investigators noted that inconsistencies have emerged in the statements provided by Deep during initial questioning.

Previously, late Thursday night, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) detained Deep at his residence on Babar Road in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. On Friday night, Tahasif’s father, K M Enayetul Karim, filed a murder case at the Uttarkhan Police Station against unidentified individuals; Deep was subsequently formally arrested in connection with this case.

Twenty-eight-year-old Tahasif went missing from his home in Uttara last Tuesday evening. The following afternoon, Wednesday, his body was recovered by the Naval Police from the Turag River, near the Rajabari Ghat in Tongi.

Tahasif’s father mentioned that Deep was a frequent visitor to their home. However, following the incident, Deep claimed that he had dropped Tahasif off within the premises of their residence. Later, he learned that they had admitted to the PBI that they had gone to Tongi. Expressing suspicion regarding this discrepancy in their accounts, he has demanded a prompt, impartial investigation to uncover the true cause of his son’s death.
