A surprising equation has been created in electoral politics in Natore-1 (Lalpur-Bagatipara) constituency. BNP nominated candidate Barrister Farzana Sharmin Putul has filed his nomination form as an independent candidate against her brother Dr. Yasir Arshad Rajan. The different positions of two members of the same family have created a discussion in local politics.
On Wednesday (December 24) afternoon, supporters of Dr. Yasir Arshad Rajan collected nomination forms on behalf of his brother from Lalpur Upazila Executive Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Julhas Hossain. At that time, several former and current BNP leaders and activists from Lalpur Upazila and surrounding areas were present there.
Former Lalpur Upazila BNP President Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Upazila Mohila Dal President Parul Akhter, former Walia Union Chairman Belal Uddin, former Arbab Union Chairman Aslam Ali, Gopalpur Municipality BNP Joint Convener Mainul Haque Biplob, and other leaders and activists supported by Dr. Yasir Arshad Rajan were present during the nomination form collection.
It is worth noting that both Dr. Yasir Arshad Rajan and Barrister Farzana Sharmin Putul are the children of the late advisor to the BNP Chairperson and former State Minister Fazlur Rahman Patol. Dr. Yasir Arshad Rajan is known as the former VP of Dhaka Medical College Students' Union. On the other hand, Barrister Farzana Sharmin Putul is currently serving as the Special Assistant to the BNP Chairperson on Foreign Affairs, a member of the Human Rights Committee and Media Cell, and the Joint Convener of Natore District BNP.
Earlier, Barrister Farzana Sharmin Putul's nomination form was collected by her mother Principal Kamrunnahar Shirin on Sunday (December 21) afternoon as the BNP's nominated candidate for the paddy sheaf in Natore-1 constituency.
Meanwhile, BNP Central Joint Secretary Md. Taiful Islam Tipu has also collected nomination forms as an independent candidate in the same constituency. As a result, two top BNP leaders have collected nomination forms as independent candidates against the paddy sheaf candidate in Natore-1 constituency, creating new curiosity and discussion in the political arena.
Several attempts were made to contact Dr. Yasir Arshad Rajan on the mobile phone used to inquire about this, but the phone was not received.
Lalpur Upazila Executive Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Julhas Hossain confirmed the matter and said that the collection of nomination forms for Dr. Yasir Arshad Rajan has been completed. At the same time, all those who have collected nomination forms have been provided with copies of the election code of conduct and have been instructed to strictly adhere to the code of conduct.
