Two leaders of Panchbibi Municipality BNP in Joypurhat have been expelled from the party in the face of criticism and controversy after a video of drug abuse went viral on social media.
This information was given in a press release issued by Panchbibi Municipality BNP on Thursday (June 18) afternoon.
The expelled leaders are Aminul Sarkar, president of Ward No. 7 BNP of the municipality, and Firoz Mandal, organizing secretary. Party sources claim that allegations have been made against them of being involved in anti-discipline and immoral activities.
The release said that in view of the allegations, Aminul Sarkar and Firoz Mandal have been relieved of all party positions and responsibilities. Panchbibi Municipality BNP convener Abu Hasnat Mandal and joint convener Ziaul Ferdous jointly implemented this decision.
Earlier, a video circulating on social media alleged that the two leaders were seen consuming narcotic substances. After the video went viral, widespread discussion and criticism arose locally.
However, despite repeated attempts to get a statement on the matter, it was not possible to contact Aminul Sarkar and Firoz Mandal.
Panchbibi Municipality BNP convener Abu Hasnat Mandal said that the video circulating on social media has been viewed seriously by the party. Organizational action has been taken against them on charges of activities against party discipline and morality.
It is worth noting that earlier, after a video of Gopinathpur Union BNP President Saidur Islam of Akkelpur Upazila of Joypurhat was circulated on social media, he was given a show cause notice (show cause). At the same time, a five-member committee was formed to investigate the incident.
