Severe cold wave in Tentulia, daughter of the Himalayas: Temperature drops to 7.3 degrees, public life in misery

Public life in Tentulia, Panchagarh has been severely disrupted due to severe cold wave. On Saturday (January 7) morning, the lowest temperature recorded in Tentulia was only 7.3 degrees Celsius. The previous day, Friday, the temperature was 8.3 degrees Celsius. Recently, the temperature has sometimes fluctuated below 10 degrees, and sometimes around 15 degrees, but now the severity of the cold has started to increase again.
A mild cold wave is blowing over several districts of the northern region, including Panchagarh. After several days of continuous dense fog, the sun has been seen for two days, but the bone-chilling cold is being felt again as the afternoon progresses. The fog and severe cold are disrupting the normal life of people from morning to evening.
Meanwhile, locals complain that the distribution of necessary winter clothes for the cold-stricken people is not being seen much. The amount of winter clothing allocated by the government is very inadequate compared to the need. As a result, daily wage laborers, agricultural workers and low-income people are unable to go to work. Due to dense fog and severe cold, public life in Tentulia in Panchagarh, the northern district of Himalaya, has practically come to a standstill.
According to doctors, children and the elderly are the most affected by winter-related diseases. The number of patients in hospitals with various problems including cold, cough, fever, and breathing difficulties is increasing. In this situation, doctors have advised to take extra precautions to avoid the cold.
Due to dense fog, vehicles were seen driving on the highway with headlights on even during the day, which is increasing the risk of accidents. The Meteorological Office said that the fog and cold conditions may continue for the next few days.
Tentulia Meteorological Office Officer-in-Charge Jitendranath Roy said that the temperature in Tentulia was recorded at 7.3 degrees Celsius on Saturday (January 11) morning, which is about 2 degrees lower than the previous day. It is feared that if the temperature continues to drop further, the cold spell may worsen in the next few days.
Tentulia Upazila Executive Officer Md. Afroz Shaheen Khasru said that the amount of winter clothes allocated by the government is very less than the requirement. Therefore, he called on various government and private organizations to come forward and stand by the cold-stricken people.
Dr. Shakil Rahman, Resident Medical Officer-in-Charge of Tentulia Hospital, said that it is important to take special care of children and the elderly. He advised people to seek medical attention from the emergency department of Tentulia Hospital without delay if they experience any cold-related symptoms.
Meanwhile, Tentulia Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) Maidul Islam Shah said that blankets have already been distributed among the cold-stricken people and a letter has been sent to the higher authorities for additional winter clothes. On the other hand, Tentulia Sadar Union UP Panel Chairman Mansur Ali said that only 226 blankets have been received in the union under government allocation, which is very insignificant compared to the large population.
