International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrated in Durgapur

The 34th International Day of Persons with Disabilities and the 27th National Day of Persons with Disabilities were celebrated in Durgapur, Netrokona, in collaboration with the Upazila Administration and Social Services Department and organized by the non-governmental development organization Caritas. The day was celebrated on Wednesday (December 3) through various events.
At the beginning of the day, a colorful rally was organized in the Upazila Parishad premises. The rally concluded at the Upazila Parishad auditorium after circumambulating various roads of the city. A discussion meeting was held with the theme “Building a disability-inclusive society, accelerating social progress.”
The DC Committee President Md. Nurul Islam presided over the meeting and Upazila Academic Supervisor Muhammad Nasir Uddin moderated it. Upazila Executive Officer Afroza Afsana spoke as the chief guest.
Upazila Social Service Officer Masul Talukder, Project Implementation Officer Md. Zahurul Islam, Press Club President Tobarak Hossain Khokon, General Secretary Masum Billah, Former President of the Journalists' Association Dilwar Hossain Talukder, Journalist Wali Hasan Talukder and Caritas Representative Polison Rangsa.
The speakers said, "The disabled are not a burden on society. They also have the right to live normally. Disabled people must be involved in every aspect of society. It is our moral responsibility to show compassion and cooperation to them." The speakers especially thanked Caritas for such a meaningful arrangement.
At the end of the discussion meeting, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Afroza Afsana announced that wheelchairs would be provided to the disabled.
