The police have recovered the body of a youth who went missing on his way back to his village home from his workplace in Dhaka during the Eid-ul-Azha vacation from the Padma River in Munshiganj after five days. The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Mehedi Hasan, a resident of Ishwardi Upazila in Pabna district.
On Saturday afternoon, locals saw a body floating in the Padma River near the old ferry pier in Mawa, Louhajang Upazila, Munshiganj and informed the police. Later, members of the Naval Police and Coast Guard went to the spot and recovered the body.
Police said that his identity was identified through the national identity card found in the pocket of the recovered body. Later, when they contacted the family members, they said that Mehedi Hasan had left Dhaka for his village home on May 25. When he last spoke to his family that night, he said that he was staying in the Aricha Ferry Pier area. No further contact has been made with him since then.
Initially, no visible signs of injury were found on the body. However, the body had decomposed due to being in the water for a long time, so the exact cause of death could not be immediately confirmed. Police said the body will be sent to the Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. After receiving the autopsy report, legal action will be taken regarding the cause of death and details of the incident.
