Fishing vessel explodes in Karnaphuli, two sailors die on way to Dhaka

Two sailors who were burnt in an explosion and fire on a fishing vessel anchored in the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong have died. They died on Tuesday evening while being taken to Dhaka for better treatment. The deceased are Md. Rubel and Shah Alam.

A fishing vessel named 'FV Desh' anchored in the Karnaphuli River in the Sadarghat area caught fire after an explosion on Tuesday afternoon. The vessel and some sailors from another vessel next to it were burnt.

The injured were first admitted to the burn unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Later, three of them were sent to Dhaka in critical condition, where Rubel and Shah Alam died on the way. Engineer Ashikuzzaman Tamim, who suffered severe burns, is currently undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.

Doctors said that Tamim's condition is critical. On the other hand, the condition of the remaining three sailors undergoing treatment in Chittagong has improved and they have been discharged from the hospital.
