Iran retaliates against US military bases in the Middle East

Iran launched missile and drone attacks in response to joint US-Israeli operations, indicating a major change in US military strategy in the Middle East. The influential US media outlet 'Wall Street Journal' reported that Washington is seriously considering transferring some of its bases in the Gulf region to Israel after they were damaged by Iranian attacks.
The report said that plans are underway to reform the strategically important US naval base in Bahrain, in particular. At the same time, discussions are underway to reduce the US military presence in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
The report, citing two senior US administration officials, said that several US bases in the Gulf region have been seriously damaged due to Iranian missile and drone attacks. In this situation, the possibility of transferring some bases to Israel is being examined considering the security risks.
Tensions in the Middle East have increased since the joint military operation between the United States and Israel in February. At that time, Iran retaliated and launched multiple missile and drone attacks targeting US bases in the Gulf region. Among them, the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain was also hit several times.
According to the Wall Street Journal, at least a dozen US military installations were damaged in these attacks. However, the Pentagon has not yet released a full description of the damage.
Meanwhile, disagreements have also arisen within the United States over the ongoing tension and war situation in the Middle East. A recent public opinion poll showed that a large part of American citizens consider this conflict unnecessary and harmful. About 60 percent of voters said that military action against Iran has not been beneficial for the United States.
According to analysts, if these talks to transfer US bases are implemented, there could be a major change in the geopolitical balance in the Middle East and there is a risk of further escalation of Israeli-Iranian tensions.
Washington has not yet announced any official decision on this matter, but it is believed that the situation could change quickly.
