Jagannath University students have started a hunger strike to death by taking a stand in front of the secretariat demanding three points, including handing over the work of the second campus to the army.
The students left the campus for the secretariat at 4:15 pm on Monday and reached there around 5 pm. Raising slogans in support of their demands, they said they would continue the sit-in until their demands were met.
Sick students who had been participating in the students' hunger strike for about 32 hours were also present.
In a briefing on the campus at 3 pm on Monday, the students set a deadline for the administration to accept the three points of their demands. However, they started their journey to the secretariat after receiving no response by 4 pm.
The Ministry of Education has organized a meeting next Wednesday to determine what to do to meet the students' demands. This information was given in a notice signed by Ahmed Shibli, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Education.
However, the students have announced that they will not withdraw from the movement until their demands are met.
The students' three-point demands
1. Handover of the work of the second campus to the army:
The agreement should be executed quickly and presented visually. Students should give a written pledge during the hunger strike.
2. Construction of the hall building in Old Dhaka:
The work of the steel-based building of Bani Bhaban and Dr. Habibur Rahman Hall should be started and completed quickly.
3. Ensuring housing allowance:
Until the housing system is launched, housing allowance should be ensured for 70 percent of the students.
