Two Bangladeshi citizens were injured in a clash over the infiltration of Indians at Chauka border in Chapainawabganj. The tension began around 12 noon on Saturday after mango and plum trees were cut down. The clash continued for about 4 hours.

The tension, which started over wheat harvesting in the no-man's land area of the Kiranganj border, spread to the Chauka border. During the clash, Indian border residents threw hand grenades at Bangladeshi people and the Indian BSF fired tear gas. Meanwhile, Bangladeshi border residents took part in the clash with sticks, bricks and other indigenous weapons.
The injured are—
1. Roni (son of Ziarul Islam), village: Ghuntola Biswanathpur, Shibganj.
2. Farooq (son of Serajul Islam), village: Kaliganj.

The border guards of the two countries tried to control the situation during the clash. A flag meeting was held between the BGB and BSF at the zero line of the Chauka border at around 4 pm. In the meeting, the BSF expressed regret over the incident and promised to work hard to prevent such incidents in the future.

Locals alleged that Indians had illegally entered the Chauka border and cut down at least 30 mango trees and more than a hundred plum trees.

According to BGB sources, people from both sides are still gathered at the border. Tension is prevailing across the area.

Lt. Col. Golam Kibria, commander of the 59th BGB Battalion, said that both sides have agreed to maintain peace. However, additional vigilance has been maintained at the border to monitor the situation.
