‘If the treatment continues like this, these people will kill me’ – Kalpana Mishra, a 25-year-old midwife from Madhya Pradesh, India, cried out in the hospital ward. The video of her, recorded a few hours before her death, has now gone viral on social media. Kalpana and her newborn baby died within hours of giving birth.
The incident took place at the Government Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh, India. Kalpana was admitted to the hospital to give birth to her first child. Before her death, she was seen restless in the women’s ward of the hospital. She wanted to go to her relatives and leave the hospital. The nursing staff on duty tried to stop her.
Kalpana’s cries before her death
In the video that went viral on social media, Kalpana is seen crying and asking for help from her family members. She said that she is terrified about the treatment and her life is in danger.
In the video, she can be heard saying, ‘I will not survive. Please save me, my life is in danger.’ Then he said, if the treatment continues like this, she will be killed. A few hours after his statement, the tragic outcome occurred.
Mother and child die after giving birth
According to the information provided by the family, Kalpana was admitted to Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Rewar on the night of August 25. The next day, she underwent a cesarean section under the supervision of doctors and gave birth to a baby boy.
But the situation deteriorated rapidly after the birth of the child. Within a few hours, Kalpana and her newborn baby died. The joy that the family was waiting for around their first child turned into grief in an instant.
Family alleges negligence in treatment
Kalpana’s family alleges that even though her physical condition deteriorated during treatment, the matter was not taken seriously enough. The family members also claimed that the doctors repeatedly requested them to monitor her condition and take necessary measures.
Kalpana’s father Ram Sharan Mishra demanded strict action against those responsible for her daughter’s death. Doubts have also been expressed by the family about whether an overdose of anesthesia was given. However, the truth of this allegation has not yet been proven in the investigation.
Statement of the hospital authorities
Contrary to the family's allegations, the hospital authorities have claimed that there was no negligence in the treatment. According to the authorities, Kalpana was treated as per the prescribed medical protocol.
Another report by the hospital has mentioned Kalpana's serious physical complications. It says that she had complications like severe pre-eclampsia, thrombocytopenia and HELLP syndrome. Based on this information, the real cause of her death will be determined through an investigation.
Two nurses suspended, investigation committee formed
Anger spread in the hospital after the death of the mother and newborn. Relatives stood in front of the main gate of the hospital and alleged negligence in the treatment and demanded action against those responsible.
After the incident, the two nursing officers in charge, Sadhana Verma and Seema Mujalde, have been temporarily suspended. At the same time, a high-level committee has been formed to investigate the entire incident. The authorities have said that further action will be taken if anyone is found negligent in the investigation.
The cause of death will be known after the autopsy
An autopsy has been conducted to determine the real cause of death of Kalpana and her newborn. The investigation committee will examine the entire matter, including medical records, the process of surgery and anesthesia, and Kalpana's physical condition before death.
As a result, the family's allegations of medical negligence and the hospital authorities' statement - what was the real incident between the two will be clear only after the investigation report is published.
Focus on the investigation
After the video recorded before Kalpana Mishra's death came to light, the incident has sparked widespread discussion. Especially, various questions have been raised about the request she made a few hours before her death and the death of the mother and newborn after that.
However, it is not possible to hold doctors responsible based on the video circulating on social media or the family's complaints. The real cause of death and whether anyone is responsible or not can be confirmed only after the investigation committee's report and the autopsy results.
