BNP's long 17-year movement has achieved a successful outcome through the July 2024 mass uprising, said the party's Senior Joint Secretary General and Political Advisor to the Prime Minister, Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
He made this comment while talking to reporters at the Election Commission in Agargaon in the capital on Sunday, July 19.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has been agitating and struggling for a long time to establish true democracy in the country. He believes that the movement has been successful with the participation of people from different classes and professions in the country, including students and the public in July.
Regarding the activities of the current government, he said that the government is taking various steps to ensure the comfort of the common people. He claimed that the price of heart rings has come down due to the withdrawal of value-added tax on their price. At the same time, agricultural loans up to Tk 10,000 have been waived.
Rizvi also mentioned the submission of BNP's income and expenditure accounts. He said that BNP has published its financial accounts as part of ensuring the accountability of the political party to the people.
He also said that a final decision has not yet been made on whether BNP will field candidates alone in the upcoming local government elections or will participate in the elections in coordination with partner parties.
According to Rizvi, the strategy for fielding candidates for the local elections will be decided after party discussions and considering the political situation.
