BNP’s Eliza Zaman Elected Member of Parliament Unopposed

Eliza Zaman, the candidate nominated by the BNP, has been elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) unopposed in the by-election for a reserved seat for women in the National Parliament. As there were no other candidates for the seat, the Election Commission (EC) declared her elected.
This information was conveyed in a notification issued by the Election Commission on Monday (November 2). The notification, signed by Returning Officer Moinuddin Khan, stated that Eliza Zaman did not withdraw her candidacy within the stipulated timeframe. Consequently, in accordance with the 'National Parliament (Reserved Seats for Women) Election Act, 2004,' her name was included in the final list of candidates.
Since Eliza Zaman was the sole candidate on the final list, no voting is required for the seat. For this reason, the BNP-nominated candidate has been declared elected unopposed.
Earlier, on October 27, following the scrutiny of nomination papers, the Returning Officer declared Eliza Zaman’s candidacy valid. At that time, he had indicated that if no other candidates remained, the Election Commission would take the necessary steps once the deadline for the withdrawal of candidature had passed.
It should be noted that the seat became vacant following the resignation of the former BNP MP for the reserved women's seat, Ferdousi Ahmed Mishti. Subsequently, the Election Commission announced the schedule for a by-election for the seat.
