Popular Islamic speaker Mufti Amir Hamza has been nominated by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for the Kushtia-3 (Sadr) constituency in the upcoming national parliamentary elections. Mubarak Hossain, a member of the party's central executive council, made the announcement at the responsible gathering of the district Jamaat at Abdul Wahid Auditorium in Kushtia on Sunday (May 25).

Kushtia District Jamaat Amir Professor Abul Hashem presided over the meeting. Speaking as the chief guest, Mubarak Hossain said, "The announcement of candidates for almost most of the 300 seats has been completed through the Kushtia-3 constituency." He also said, "Jamaat-e-Islami will not accept any election without progress in reforms and a fair trial process. We do not want to see elections like those of 2018 or 2024. Our main demand is that the election should be held under a neutral caretaker government."

Regarding the nomination of Mufti Amir Hamza, Mubarak Hossain said, “The candidate we have nominated for this seat is not only limited to the country, but is also a well-known face internationally. He has made important contributions to Islamic dawah and social reform. His candidacy will further enrich the image of our party.”

Jessore-Kushtia region team member Alamgir Biswas and Professor Khandaker AKM Ali Mohsin were present as special guests at the event. Also present were Kushtia District Jamaat Nayeb Amir Abdul Gafur, Central Shura member Professor Farhad Hussain, Kushtia City Jamaat Amir Enamul Haque, Chhatra Shibir City President Selim Reza and District President Khawaja Ahmed, among others.

Discussions have already started in the political arena around Mufti Amir Hamza’s candidacy. Political analysts believe that Jamaat-e-Islami is trying to strengthen its organizational position in the Kushtia region by nominating a popular religious speaker. Now it remains to be seen how much this candidate can win the hearts of voters and how impartial the election is held.
